At SHOT Show 2022, Rock Island Armory (RIA) announced its very first striker-fired pistol, the aluminum-framed STK100. Featuring a 1911 grip angle, RIA told us that this pistol has “all the advantages of metal for the price of a polymer.”
Rock Island’s claim to fame with this pistol is in its frame. The STK100 features a patented clamshell design, which combines two aluminum halves together to make the complete frame. This design helps keep manufacturing costs down, and the savings are passed on to the consumer.
This all-aluminum frame features a praised 1911 grip angle and includes ample texturing for a tight grip in adverse weather conditions. Using an extended beavertail also allows users to get a higher and tighter purchase to reduce muzzle rise after a shot.
Right from the factory, the STK100 comes with lightening cuts and a top window in the slide. The slide also utilizes both front and rear slide serrations, as well as some on the top near the front sight post.
RIA incorporates my favorite type of rear sight as well, a serrated anti-glare blacked-out rear sight paired with a single, front white dot sight using a tenon cut with a retaining screw. These sights work well, but for those who would like to upgrade to a red dot, the STK100 is ready to go with an optic plate covering the Vortex Venom patterned slide cut.
The trigger has an acceptable take-up, clean break, and a very short and positive reset. Chambered in 9mm and using a standard 17-round Glock magazine, the STK100 is going to be easy to feed. With many interchangeable features and widely-available aftermarket Glock parts, the STK100 is going to be a great option for many!
