Maxim Defense announced at SHOT Show 2020 that it is expanding its popular PDX line with the MDX-508 and MDX-510.
Built for Tier 1 operators, the original PDX is an ultra-compact rifle or pistol (depending on the setup) purpose-built for close-quarters battle (CQB). We discovered it at last year’s SHOT Show and what blew us away was that despite its small stature — 18.75 inches in overall length with a 5.5-inch barrel — the PDX was quite accurate and it didn’t blow out our eardrums.
The tech behind the soft-shooting PDX is Maxim’s “HATEBRAKE muzzle booster.” Maxim claims that it “significantly reduces recoil, decreases the flash signature, pushes gasses and concussion waves downrange away from the operator and improves overall performance in short barrel pistols and rifles,” and during our short time with it on the range, we’d have to agree.
As many of you guys with AR shorties know, they can be quite LOUD to shoot.

Anyway, this year Maxim rolled out the MDX-508 and MDX-510, which are everything one loves about the PDX but with slightly elongated barrels, 8.5-inch and 10.3-inch barrel, respectively. Both guns are now offered in 7.62×39, 5.56 NATO, and .300 BLK. And, of course, purchasers can choose from the company’s cutting edge stocks and braces that rapidly collapse/deploy with ease.
