Overview

The Dead Foot Arms Modified Cycle System is a retrofit kit that transforms a standard AR-15 into a folding stock rifle. The system uses a proprietary dual recoil spring and shortened bolt carrier to reduce the overall rifle lenth. This makes the rifle short enough to accommodate a folding stock system that still fires with the stock folded.

The proprietary bolt carrier group works with standard direct-impingement AR-15 uppers and the shortened dual recoil spring system also helps reduce bolt bounce. Additionally the kit still provides a standard buffer tube to mount common AR stocks and pistol braces.

An AR with a standard 16-inch barrel measures just over 26 inches long with the stock is folded to the side — compared to over 30 inches with a standard collapsing stock. The folding stock adapter provides positive retention when folded and ensures a rock-solid lock up in the deployed position with a quick swing outward. The adapter works with any rifle that uses a standard AR-15 buffer assembly.

The Modified Cycle System is offered in both left- and right-side folding configurations.

Dead Foot Arms’ Modified Cycle System attaches only to the lower receiver and is rated for full-auto fire. Dead Foot Arms offers the kit with either a QPQ nitride finish or a Cerakote Micro Slick finish for enhanced reliability and reduced wear.

Each kit includes everything necessary and only requires a castle nut wrench to install. The kit includes the complete modified bolt carrier group, buffer springs, buffer tube and folding block assembly.

Impressions

This kit is well thought-out and looks like what the AR should have been from the beginning. I could not get over how simple this kit was.

Dead Foot Arms offers complete kits as well as services to modify existing bolt carriers for a reduced price option. They carry complete kits for ARs chambered for .223 Remington/5.56 NATO as well as .300 AAC Blackout, 7.62x39mm and 9mm Luger.

The company produces both left- and right-side folding stock adapters as well. While the weight of the buffer assembly is heavier than standard the shortened bolt carrier group makes up for it and with the the Dead Foot Arms t-Rex 5 positions collapsible stock it is lightweight and very minimalist.

Pricing and Availability

The standard Modified Cycle System run $499 while the Cerakote version is a little more at $525. If you send in a bolt carrier of your own for modification the price drops by $100. Considering the amount of functionality this system adds — and unlike other folding stock adapters it can be fired with the stock folded — the price is reasonable for something this unique.
