After teasing us nearly a decade ago with a folding “briefcase” gun based on a Glock operating system, Magpul is finally bringing that gun to market. Aiming for a 2023 release, Magpul has partnered with Zev Technologies to bring us the FDP-9 // FDC-9.
Set to be released as a large-format pistol chambered in 9mm, the Folding Defensive Pistol (FDP-9), and the Folding Defensive Carbine (FDC-9) will use a Magpul chassis and a proprietary variant of the ZEV OZ9 operating system.
The FDP-9 is classified as a “pistol” per ATF and users will be able to purchase it from their local FFL just like any other pistol. This FDP model can also be legally converted into an FDC-9 after a Form 1 is filled out and approved, however, Magpul will also offer the SBR version straight from the factory in the FDC-9 configuration.
Magpul told us that the ATF has approved both of these variants so now we all just have to wait on production.
The FDP-9 will come with a rear sling mount, and the FDC-9 will be shaped more like a typical stock when unfolded.
Magpul told us that while the system uses a standard Glock slide, the lower is completely proprietary and will not be able to be fired outside of the main housing.
There is still work to be done as the models displayed at SHOT Show were just prototypes, but Magpul has a history of delivering. Click HERE to learn more.
