Tennessee House of Representatives Speaker Cameron Sexton (R) is calling for the expulsion of three Democratic lawmakers after they disrupted house proceedings last Thursday.

During the session, Gloria Johnson, Justin Jones, and Justin Pearson took over the House floor and led a protest demanding gun control in response to last week’s tragic shooting.

The disruption brought the floor to a halt for 30-to-45 minutes.

Sexton, in an interview with Fox News, explained, “These three individuals stormed up to the well where you speak from without being recognized, did not display decorum, they disrupted the proceedings where we had to shut down, pulled out a megaphone and started to lead the balcony in protest.”

In a vote on Monday, the House affirmed to strip the three representatives of their committee assignments.

Since then, GOP representatives have pushed for a vote on expelling their disruptive counterparts.

Jones has responded to the call for his expulsion, “We’ll not be intimidated. THE PEOPLE are demanding we act to stop kids from being murdered in schools.”

The Vote to Expel

Sexton explained to Fox News’s Bill Hemmer, “I want to make sure everybody knows this has nothing to do about the protest outside the House chamber or the protests outside the Capitol.”

“This is about these three members’ actions on the House floor, how they shut us down, and how they led protests from the House chamber to those [people] in the balcony,” Sexton added.

Affirming the House’s actions, Sexton stated, “Their actions on the House floor rise to the level of expulsion. We cannot allow these types of things to take place in the people’s House.”

The vote for expulsion is scheduled to take place toward the end of Thursday’s session. Stay tuned for updates.
