Overview

I always like to stop by the Nikon booth at SHOT Show to see what new gear they have for the year. Nikon is renowned for making great products at good prices, so I was interested to see what was on offer for the year.

Rangefinder

First up of what I found was the MONARCH 7i rangefinder, featuring Nikon’s vibration reduction system. Priced at an MSRP of $399.95, this rangefinder’s system reduces vibrations of the image in the viewfinder caused by hand movements. Vibration is claimed to be reduced by 80% by aligning the image with the laser beam. The monocular has 6x magnification with a wide field of view and long eye relief that gathers the light for a bright image.

The MONARCH 7i VR measures distances from 8-1,000 yards in one yard increments with a yard or less of accuracy. There are two different ranging modes depending on the situation. First target priority mode allows you to range an object as small as a fence post while distant target priority mode displays the range of the farthest target. The MONARCH 7i VR give you the horizontal distance to the target, even when ranging on an incline or decline.

Scopes & Mounts

Next up was the Black Force1000 riflescope, also priced at an MSRP of $399.95. Nikon’s Black Force1000 riflescope is an optic designed from the ground up for the AR platform. It is a true 1x magnification and 4x zoom for both-eyes-open engagement with the ability for long-range aiming precision. With the Quick Focus Eyepiece has a smooth-turning rubberized ring allowing crisp reticle focus on the fly. The 30mm aircraft grade aluminum alloy scope is waterproof, fogproof O-ring sealed, and nitrogen purged for reliability. The metal-capped turrets are large and easy to adjust. The new MOA glass-etched SpeedForce Illuminated reticle is located in the second focal plane. There is a side-mounted illumination adjustment with 10 brightness settings that will work in bright sunlight. An auto shut off system will engage after one hour to conserve battery life. And finally, I saw the Nikon Black Series Extended 1-Piece Cantilever Scope Mount with Integral 30mm Rings. Priced at an MSRP of $139.95, this mount will work ideally well with the Black Force1000 scope.
