Exciting stuff in the world of optics, and Leupold was on point, as usual, this year. Two new releases we saw are sure to resonate with consumers this year.

New Leupold Affordable Thermal Tracker & More! – SHOT Show 2017

The new LTO thermal tracker from Leupold is surprisingly affordable and a great option for the outdoorsman.

New this year is the LTO Tracker thermal unit. This was the cheapest thermal I saw at SHOT Show, and that is doubly amazing since it says Leupold on the side. We are seeing more and more thermal and NVG technology creep into the hunting market, and I for one am glad things are getting affordable. Our shake out on the LTO was limited to indoors, but I am at least intrigued. If it truly does work to 600m like is claimed, this is going to disrupt the thermal market in a big way. Can’t wait to get my hands on one.

Also up was the VX3I LRP, a scope designed for the entry level PRS or the tactical consumer. In addition to storied Leupold clarity of glass, this scope offers some great features. There is a turret index window for elevation, to show how many rotations above your zero you are. Many a shooter has reached out long, forgotten how many full turret revolutions he was on, and screwed the pooch on close range targets. Happens to the best of us. Leupold also included a thread protector for the windage knob, in case you still dial your winds on. This is a nice feature for those that prefer an exposed windage turret. Last but not least, this scope ships with an optional throw lever for magnification. That is a really good add on as they save a ton of time in competition. I like that it is user removable too though, because they are not so fun when stalking through the underbrush.
