Incoming! Michigan Senate Expected to Pass Gun Control!

in 2nd Amendment – R2KBA, Current Events, This Week

It is expected that a series of bills aimed at altering gun laws will be approved by the Michigan Senate this week.

Following the shooting at Michigan State University, a comprehensive package of 11 bills was introduced. Notable features of this package include red flag laws, universal background checks, and mandatory safe storage regulations, per Fox2 News.

Assuming the bills are approved, all firearms, not just handguns, would require background checks before they are transferred or purchased.

Furthermore, firearm owners would be obligated to securely store their firearms out of reach of minors.

The package also encompasses red flag laws, which have been implemented in other states over the years.

In 2018, Florida passed a red flag law in response to the Parkland high school shooting, while Maine has a “yellow flag” law that mandates a medical professional’s approval before firearms can be confiscated.

Although the particulars of these laws differ from state to state, the fundamental principle remains constant: an individual, usually a family member, police officer, or medical professional, can seek a court order to confiscate someone’s firearms for a designated duration.

The order’s approval or rejection is at the judge’s discretion, and non-compliance may result in criminal charges against the individual.

The Senate will convene Thursday for this decision. Stay tuned for updates.
