Who wants a 300 Blackout Tavor? We do! In all honesty–who wouldn’t want access to versatility and stopping power of the 300 Blackout cartridge wrapped up in the compact package that is the Tavor?

IWI has developed a new version of the tried and true Israeli specialty chambered in 300 Blackout. Keeping true to the original design, the Tavor SAR 300 is more or less a caliber conversion of its 5.56×45 counterpoint. In fact, these rifles will maintain parts interchangeability with the rest of the SAR rifles. Hank Strange checked in with IWI during Range Day at SHOT Show for GunsAmerica. Check out his video above for his first impressions.

Tavor 1

The IWI Tavor in 300 Blackout, it looks like a Tavor!

Shooting the 300 Blackout is just like shooting the standard rifles with the addition of a bit more recoil. We didn’t get to do any suppressed shooting with the rifle, but with the proper subsonic cartridge and the correct gas setting, this gun should be Hollywood quiet.

The new Tavor will be available in 16.5 and 18 inch barrel lengths. It will have an adjustable gas regulator built into the barrel assembly. These rifles will still hold the same mil-spec standards and ratings that the other Tavor Sar rifles hold. Most importantly, these guns are set to hit the market in April.

Wishing you had waited to pull the trigger on your Tavor purchase to take advantage of the new 300 Blackout offering? Have no fear! IWI will offer the 300 Blackout as a caliber conversion in the following months. The Conversion kit will contain either a 16.5” or 18” cold hammer forged chrome lined barrel made of CrMoV steel with a 1:7 right hand twist. It will also include a headspaced bolt, a A2 flash suppressor and a barrel wrench.  The MSRP for the kit will be $499.00.

Keep watching in the following months as we will be doing a follow up review on the kit as they start becoming available.

It is a little hard to see, but the barrel is marked 300 Blackout.

The receiver is marked 223, but this is the 300 Blackout Tavor. IWI used the tape to make sure the rifles and ammo were not mixed at the range.
