It seems like everyone that plays big boy ball in the defense sector is shifting to .338 Lapua Magnum for extreme long range, and IWI most certainly falls in that defense sector category.
The DAN Precision rifle from IWI is an interesting .338 Lapua Magnum bolt-action rifle with a lot of potential.
OVERVIEW
Enter the Dan .338 Lapua Magnum, a magazine fed, bolt action, precision rifle in a chassis type stock. We had the opportunity to see an early version of this rifle at SHOT Show 2017.
The chassis is made from one solid piece of aluminum to ensure strength, and features a full length top Picatinny rail for optics, night vision, and laser needs. Additional rail sections can be added at the 9 and 3 as needed.
The buttstock is a side folder, a real necessity on a gun this long, as most .338 guns are. It is also skeletonized to save weight, and features adjustability for length, cheek weld, and toe placement. The magazine release is ambidextrous, and two magazines come with the system.
SPECS
Although they did not have a full press sheet on the DAN rifle available, they did tell is chambered in .338 Lapua Magnum, ambidextrous safety system, approximately 15 pounds, removable trigger pack, has a side-folding stock and is priced at $8,999.
IMPRESSION
This is the first bolt-action precision rifle that IWI has introduced to the US market, and hopes are high. We didn’t get to fire the Dan, but from handling it we do know this. The ergonomics feel good, and its relatively light for a gun of this caliber. The gun is balanced, controls are easy to reach and instinctive, and the trigger is incredible. The bolt runs smoothly, and you can feel the quality of machining every time you cycle it. The IWI Dan is sure to make a big splash in the precision market.
