Hollywood actress Reese Witherspoon decried the “not guilty” verdict in the Kyle Rittenhouse trial on Twitter over the weekend.
“No one should be able to purchase a semi-automatic weapon, cross state lines and kill two people, wound another, and go free,” tweeted Witherspoon.
“In what world is this safe… for any of us?” she added.

Witherspoon vowed that she would never “stop advocating for justice,” and never vote for “US representatives and judges who support this recklessness.”
She also thanked Bloomberg-funded gun-control organizations, Moms Demand Action and Everytown for Gun Safety, for “the work that you do. It is vital.”

While none of you care what Witherspoon thinks about the trial, about gun control, about elections, about anything at all for that matter, it’s hard to dismiss her comments whole hog for two reasons.
First, how profoundly ignorant they are. It’s clear that the “Legally Blonde” actress did not follow the details of the case at all, as this Twitter user aptly pointed out:

Second, how common these sorts of reactions are among those on the Left.
It’s actually quite scary that things have become so politicized in this country that an open-and-shut case of self-defense is being repeatedly mischaracterized as “a miscarriage of justice.”
Rittenhouse did not get away with murder.
And yet, thanks to ill-informed people like Reese, who have huge followings on social media, millions of Americans now believe that to be true.
Sadly, this recklessness (Yes, Reese is the one who is being reckless!) has consequences. When potentially millions of citizens suddenly lose faith in government institutions, especially the justice system, criminals see this as an opportunity to act out.
As GunsAmerica reported, looters and rioters are now wreaking havoc in major cities around the country, including New York, San Francisco, Chicago, and Portland.
If everyone had put politics aside and simply looked at the facts of this case, it’s possible that this fallout could have been avoided. Alas, that’s not the world we live in.
