Beretta is adding a two new pistols to their catalog this year, the M9A1 22LR and the PX4 CC. Like it’s 9mm Luger counterpart, the M9A1 22LR has a railed frame for lights, lasers and other frame-mounted accessories, only it’s chambered for .22 Long Rifle. The PX4 CC is a factory-tuned centerfire pistol optimized for concealed-carry.
Designed to be an affordable trainer in addition to a fun range toy, the M9A1 22LR is externally identical to the centerfire pistol and works with all the same holsters and accessories, including the grips. “These are actually the same grips we install on our 9mm pistols,” said Beretta Vice President of Marketing Rafe Bennett.

At around 26 ounces they’re a little lighter than the 9mm versions but that will only make the recoil impulse more centerfire-like. They are as true to the original as possible and even have the same takedown procedure as the 9mm pistols do. With the same controls and double-action/single-action operation, the M9A1 22LR is a fine option for plinking and practice.
Beretta is working on a series of upgrade components for the future for shooters who like to customize or modify their guns. The M9A1 22LR has a $399 MSRP and will be offered with 10- and 15-round magazines where available and will start shipping within the next month or two.
The New PX4 CC
The PX4 CC has been thoroughly worked over for everyday carry.
The new PX4 CC expands Beretta’s polymer-framed, double-action/single-action pistols for service and self-defense. Based on the mid-size PX4 Compact the CC has been tweaked and tuned for everyday carry using feedback and input from professional shooter Ernest Langdon.
It’s a decocker-only pistol without manual safeties and low-profile controls including the ambidextrous decocker levers and slide stop. The PX4 CC comes with three sizes of magazine buttons for a personalized grip. The guns will ship with wrap-around Talon grips, too, for even more grip options.
The slide has a dark grey Cerakote finish for extra wear resistance and to make it stand out from the rest of the PX4 series. It also comes with a set of high-visibility Ameriglo day and night sights. The PX4 CC has an improved trigger pack that’s even lighter and smoother than the standard PX4 trigger. Additionally, it ships with three 15-round magazines, one more than standard.

Apart from the upgrades new pistol has all the features people expect to find in a PX4 Compact, including the rotating barrel recoil system. The PX4 CC does not use a Browning tilting barrel like most pistols. Instead the 3.3-inch barrel locks into the slide on a set of rotating lugs until the whole assembly travels back far enough to twist the barrel, unlocking the slide.
This unconventional recoil action makes for a very flat, soft-shooting pistol even with hot self-defense ammo. If you’ve been considering a PX4 for concealed-carry then this is the model for you. Expect to pay a little extra – the MSRP will be around $850 with availability expected within the first quarter of 2016.
