Anti-Gun Rocker John Mellencamp: ‘They Don’t Give a F-ck About Our Children’

in Uncategorized

Rocker John Mellencamp is not happy with the bipartisan gun-control bill the Senate tentatively agreed to this week because, in his mind, it doesn’t go far enough.

On Twitter, Mellencamp voiced his frustrations.

“Only in America, and I mean only, in America, can 21 people be murdered and a week later be buried and forgotten, with a flimsy little thumbnail, a vague notion of some sort of gun control law laying on the senators’ desks,” wrote Mellencamp, referencing the mass killing in Uvalde, Texas.

“What kind of people are we who claim that we care about pro-life?” the Indiana-born singer continued. “Just so you know, anyone that’s reading this… politicians don’t give a f–k about you, they don’t give a f–k about me, and they don’t give a f–k about our children. So, with that cheery thought in mind, have a happy summer, because it will be just a short time before it happens again.”

Mellencamp’s criticism of the legislation, known as the “Safer Communities Act,” comes on the heels of an appearance on MSNBC’s “The Beat with Ari Melber” where he argued that the media should publicize the photos of the deceased victims.

“If we don’t show it, they’re dying in vain because they’re just going to try to pass more bullshit laws like they’re trying to get through now. Show it. Show what a machine gun can do to a child’s head. It’s your responsibility as a news network to show it. Show the people what we’re talking about. Because just to go, oh, 13 kids killed, most people go, well, that happened again,” he said.

For Mellencamp, the only path forward is widespread civil disarmament.

“We need people to turn in their guns. I understand people, you know, liking guns. I’ve got two kids who like guns, but I have to tell you, when the Second Amendment was written, they were talking about muskets. They were talking about muskets,” he said.

“People say you can’t change the Second Amendment. It’s an amendment. It’s already been changed. So don’t say you can’t change the Second Amendment. You can change the Second Amendment. Change the damn thing,” he added.

What would be your response to Mr. Mellencamp?
