Overview

AirForce made waves at the 2015 SHOT Show with their Texan pre-charged pneumatic air rifle. The new TexanSS is the much quieter version of the original, which remains one of the world’s most powerful airguns. The TexanSS is a smaller, suppressed version of the big-bore air rifle.

“Within an hour of finishing the original Texan, we were at work on the sound suppressed version,” commented AirForce founder John McCaslin. “We wanted to minimize sound while retaining as much of the Texan’s power as we could. This air rifle strikes that balance perfectly.”

The TexanSS has a 24-inch Lothar-Walther barrel capable of delivering over 400 foot-pounds of force at the muzzle. On a full charge that exceeds standard .45 ACP loads. The airgun also has an adjustable power system.

“Every time we design a new gun or a new version of an existing rifle, we ask how we can make it better,” remarked McCaslin. “With TexanSS, we found a way to combine the power, reliability and usability in the field that we would expect from any good hunting rifle. Minus the sound.”

Impressions

These guns can push a .45-caliber pellet to 500 yards, with enough velocity to use on game. they also have a 1-MOA guarantee at 100 yards. One thing is for sure, these boys are serious.

Rick Ward, the “Urban Airgunner,” uses them to hunt coyotes. I am looking forward to testing these guns very soon.

Pricing and Availability

The base price for the suppressed TexanSS is $1,395, which is on-par with or even less than a comparable cartridge-based rifle. Considering this airgun isn’t a firearm and comes with a can, this is a great option for shooters everywhere.
