Just nine-years-old and already a serious competitive shooter, Alexis Welch is sponsored by Aguila Ammunition and takes her sport very seriously. This is one young shooter to watch!

Alexis Welch, an up-and-coming young shooter sponsored by Aguila Ammunition, knows what it takes to overcome adversity and succeed. Having been born deaf (and having surgery to correct it) and recently dealing with the passing of her beloved grandfather, Tryce (she called him “Papa”), Alexis is a driven nine-year-old who takes shooting very seriously.

“My Papa introduced me to shooting. I am doing 2-Gun shooting now and want to work up to 3-Gun,” she told me during an interview at the 2016 NRA Annual Meeting. “If you learn to use firearms safely, you can use them for fun competitive shooting or for self-defense. I think they are really important,” she continued.

While speaking with Alexis, I learned that she first asked to learn to shoot at the age of five and asked her papa to help her get started. By the time she was eight she was competing, and there has been no looking back for her. In the time since, Alexis has traveled around the country for her competitions. She is adept with .22 pistols and rifles, has been working with a 9mm pistol and recently received her first AR.

Friends In Her Corner

Although Alexis started with rimfires, she has recently upgraded to centerfires like this AR (as well as a 9mm pistol).

And, she has some serious support from Aguila Ammunition as well. Officially sponsoring Alexis, Aguila not only provides her ammunition but also has developed a scholarship program named Team Tryce (in honor of her grandfather) to help provide the funds needed for her to cover transportation and competition fees. For every Team Tryce product sold, 100 percent of the proceeds go directly to supporting Alexis.

Definitely keep an eye out for Alexis over the coming years. We have no doubt she will be a force to be reckoned with on the competitive shooting fields! For more information on Aguila, visit their website at https://www.aguilaammo.com/.
