5.11 Tactical pants fit well and get the job done
You are heading to a shooting competition and you realize you need some pants. While it is possible to compete in jeans, it is less than optimal. You start shopping and soon realize there are many “tacticool ballon pants” out there to choose from. 5.11 Tactical has offered great fitting pants with a function driven design for years. In 2019, they are updating some of their best sellers as well as introducing new products.
Apex pants are form fitting without being restrictive. The updated thigh pockets can be opened from a seated position.
Probably my favorite activewear pants are the 5.11 Apex series. They are more covert/low visibility than most tactical type pants, but they offer plenty of functional pockets (11). These can be worn about town without drawing unwanted attention.
The Apex is undergoing an update with a more athletic cut, and the zippered thigh pockets will now have a much different angle to allow entry while from a seated position. I use mine for photography assignments, kicking around town, and warm to cool weather hunting. To be able to grab a call or a range finder from the thigh pocket while seated is a welcome change. These will be offered in even waist sizes 28 to 44 and lengths from 30 to 36. Colors range from Ranger green, to black, khaki, and other popular shades. The updated version will be $79.99 and available this fall.
5.11 Stryke pants are tough and durable without being bulky.
The Stryke pants have been very popular, and now they will be improved. I’ve been using the original Stryke pants for 3-Gun competitions and they are just about perfect for that or any similar activity. The knees are articulated and reinforced. Similar to the Apex, the Stryke uses different fabrics in key places to either add mobility or increase durability. The first change is the angle of the small pockets on the front of the thigh. The slant cut makes them easier to access. Other dimensions have been changed to make them less boxy and more form fitting. Colors and sizes are similar to the Apex. Stryke pants will still be $74.99 and the updated version will be available this fall.
